ABOUT ME

After a 25+ year career as high school educator and adjunct professor, my itch to change professions could no longer be ignored. I returned to school in my late 40's and earned a Master of Social Work degree and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/psychotherapist. My Graduate Capstone Project was a qualitative study on Post-Traumatic Growth of LGBTQ+ Survivors of Religious Trauma.

I specialize in working with adolescents, young adults and middle-aged adults from a variety of socio-cultural and economic backgrounds. I have experience supporting clients who struggle with: anxiety, depression, substance use, OCD, PTSD, neurodivergence, grief/loss, faith transitions and gender identity and am a fierce ally of the LGBTQ+ community. I was raised in California and Nevada, and am fortunate enough to have lived in Utah for the majority of my adult life. I have also lived in Mexico, Chile and Venezuela, and am a proud bi-cultural, Mexican-American and offer therapy sessions in Spanish.

I strive to create a safe, supportive and professional space for my clients to explore and gain awareness. My strength is my ability to combine psycho-education and research, (I am a teacher at heart), with evidence-based treatments such as: Exposure Response Prevention, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused-CBT, Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I work at the pace and intensity that the client feels comfortable with and am committed to providing the highest quality of professional care.

TESTIMONIALS

"Monica really helped me through one of the toughest periods of my life. She helped me realize that I was strong enough, that people cared for me, and I had the ability to heal from trauma. She helped me see that I am not an “imposter” and that I am good enough."

L. R. - Lehi, UT

"Monica is absolutely wonderful. I started sessions with her when I was at a very tough spot both mentally and emotionally. In the months that followed I fluctuated a lot, and Monica was always matching my energy and meeting me where I was at. She was so validating to my personal struggles, but also helped me see where I could personally improve or grow. I will forever be grateful for her help and the tools she gave me as I learned to navigate some difficult internal battles and made big life decisions. I cannot recommend her enough".

C. A. Los Angeles, CA

"Monica is one of the most interesting, sweet and easiest people to talk to. She is very easy to open up to and that is not common for me with my former therapists."

B. M.- Lafayette, LA

"Monica is an amazing person with a kind and thoughtful heart. She has been the most welcoming and warm clinician who I enjoy speaking to during every session."
